Additional Description: A finely cast brass escutcheon plate designed to frame a keyhole opening on an antique cabinet or desk. The design features symmetrical Rococo foliate scrollwork with a decorative shell-like motif beneath the keyhole aperture.
The front displays detailed relief casting while the reverse retains the rough casting surface typical of period furniture mounts.
Escutcheons served both decorative and functional purposes, protecting wood surfaces around frequently used locks.
