A well-constructed antique oak stationary box featuring decorative pierced brass corner mounts, shield-form escutcheon, and a fitted interior with shaped letter dividers.
The interior retains its original compartment system designed to hold correspondence, envelopes, and writing paper. The shaped divider profiles are hand-cut and symmetrically arranged, with a central vertical divider and curved horizontal slots for organizing documents.
The exterior is made from solid oak with a warm medium-brown finish and visible grain patterning. Decorative brass corner mounts with pierced foliate motifs protect the box corners and add a Victorian decorative element. The lock plate is stamped "Secure Lock", a mark commonly found on Late 19th century English stationary boxes and document boxes.

Stationary boxes became popular in the Victorian period as personal correspondence expanded socially and professionally. These boxes were often kept on desks or in parlors to store writing materials, letters, and documents.
Oak stationary boxes with brass mounts were particularly common in England during the late 19th century, combining durability with decorative brass fittings. The pierced corner mounts are characteristic of Victorian desk accessories rather than later reproduction hardware.
