An impressive Victorian silverplated centerpiece or jardinière of elongated oval form, lavishly decorated with exuberant Rococo Revival ornament throughout. Raised on four scrolling feet, the body features deeply cast acanthus foliage, shell motifs, C-scrolls, and pierced cresting, while dramatic openwork foliate handles terminate in sweeping scrolls.
The interior retains its original gilded wash, a desirable feature traditionally used to help protect the underlying metal from moisture when displaying floral arrangements. Rich casting and sculptural detailing give the piece exceptional visual depth from every angle, making it equally suited as a centerpiece, champagne display with a liner, cachepot, or dramatic decorative vessel.
