Item Title: Pair of 19th Century French Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze & White Marble Three-Light Candelabra
### Additional Description
An elegant pair of French Louis XVI-style gilt bronze and white marble candelabra, featuring richly ornamented Neoclassical detailing and a sophisticated combination of gilded metalwork and pale stone.
Each candelabrum features a central classical urn embellished with finely modeled laurel swags and flanked by two gracefully scrolling candle arms. The arms are decorated with twisted rope-like detailing and acanthus foliage, terminating in circular drip pans with gadrooned borders and finely cast candle sockets.
The central urns are surmounted by removable, fluted domed covers, each crowned with a decorative pinecone finial. When removed, the covers reveal additional candle sockets, allowing each candelabrum to accommodate three candles rather than two.
The urns rest upon architectural white marble pedestals adorned with applied gilt bronze floral and foliate ornaments, framed by delicate beaded borders. Stepped gilt bronze moldings with classical decorative motifs further accentuate the pedestals.
Each candelabrum stands upon a shaped white marble plinth outlined with gilt bronze beading and raised on four turned gilt bronze feet.
A beautifully balanced and decorative pair, particularly suited for display upon a French mantel, console table, or formal dining table.
### Era
Late 19th Century, circa 1880–1900 (estimated).
French Louis XVI / Neoclassical Revival style.
### History
The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the latter half of the 18th century, reflecting a renewed fascination with the art and architecture of classical antiquity.
Departing from the asymmetrical ornamentation of the preceding Rococo period, Louis XVI decorative arts embraced symmetry, architectural proportions, and motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome.
Classical urns, laurel garlands, acanthus leaves, beaded borders, and finely cast gilt bronze mounts became defining characteristics of the movement.
During the 19th century, particularly under the Second Empire and throughout the Belle Époque, French decorative arts experienced a revival of earlier royal styles. Parisian bronze founders and decorative arts workshops produced elegant lighting fixtures, mantel ornaments, and candelabra inspired by the finest 18th-century French designs.
This pair reflects that tradition through its classical urn forms, scrolling candle branches, architectural marble pedestals, and finely articulated gilt metal ornamentation.
The incorporation of removable central finials, concealing additional candle sockets, demonstrates the decorative ingenuity characteristic of French candelabra of this type.
### Provenance
France, attributed.
Specific maker and prior ownership history unknown.

Please note that the precise metal alloy has not been independently tested, and the attribution to French manufacture and late 19th-century production is based on stylistic and construction characteristics.
