Additional Description:
An elegant Victorian English flow blue covered serving dish by W.H. Grindley & Co. in the highly collectible “Marguerite” pattern. This beautifully modeled piece features richly saturated cobalt blue floral transfer decoration flowing softly across a luminous white ground, creating the atmospheric blurred effect that defines classic Victorian flow blue ware.
The oval body is decorated with intricate floral garlands and scrolling border ornamentation accented by raised molded beadwork and relief detailing along the rim. The domed lid is adorned with delicate floral sprays and topped with an ornate floral-form finial washed in deep cobalt tones. Gracefully shaped side handles extend outward with softly curled terminals, while the base rests on an elaborate molded Rococo-inspired foot with scrolling shell-like ornamentation.
The “Marguerite” pattern combines romantic floral motifs with refined ornamental borders, giving the piece a luxurious late Victorian presentation ideal for display in a layered English country house or French-inspired interior.
The underside bears the mark for W.H. Grindley & Co., a well-known Staffordshire pottery firm celebrated for producing transferware and flow blue ceramics during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their wares became especially popular in both England and the American market for their decorative richness and practical forms.
