Additional Description:
An original late-17th-century Italian copperplate engraving depicting the waterfalls of the River Aniene at Tivoli with the Temple of the Sibyl, one of the most celebrated landscapes near Rome during the Grand Tour period.
The plate is titled:
“Prospetto e cascata del fiume Aniene col Tempio della Sibilla contigua alla Roma antica…”
In English: "View of the waterfall of the River Aniene with the Temple of the Sibyl, adjoining Ancient Rome, in the plain of the Vialone delle Fontanelle"
The engraving is signed in the plate:
Gio. Francesco Venturini del. et inc. (artist and engraver)
Printed by Gio. Giacomo Rossi, Rome
Rossi was one of the most important Roman print publishers of the late 17th century, known for architectural, topographical, and antiquarian views of Rome and its surroundings.
Printed on handmade laid paper, with visible plate impression and deckled edges. The long horizontal format suggests the plate originally belonged to a Roman topographical print series or architectural publication.
The composition shows travelers, classical ruins, cascading water, and the iconic Tivoli temple — a subject widely collected by Grand Tour visitors.

Late 17th century (circa 1680–1700)
