An exceptionally ornate French Louis XVI-style mantel clock featuring a richly cast gilt bronze case adorned with hand-painted porcelain plaques and columns in vivid bleu céleste tones. The architectural case is crowned with an oval porcelain portrait medallion depicting an aristocratic lady in 18th-century dress, framed by scrolling floral bronze mounts and topped with an urn finial.
The circular enamel dial is encircled by Roman numeral cartouches against a striking blue ground, centered with delicately hand-painted floral decoration. Beneath the dial is an additional porcelain panel depicting a winged cherub holding a lyre amid clouds, reinforcing the romantic Rococo and neoclassical aesthetic.
The case is lavishly ornamented throughout with scrolling acanthus forms, floral garlands, ribbon motifs, and pierced gilt bronze mounts. Flanking the dial are porcelain columns and urn-form side ornaments hand-painted with delicate floral sprays. The movement bears the stamp of the celebrated French clockmaker Japy Frères.

Japy Frères was one of the most important French clockmaking firms of the 19th century, founded by Frédéric Japy in the late 18th century and becoming internationally recognized for producing high-quality clock movements supplied to elite Parisian clock retailers and bronze casters.
During the Belle Époque period, highly decorative gilt bronze and porcelain clocks inspired by Louis XVI and Sèvres porcelain aesthetics became fashionable centerpieces in affluent European interiors. These clocks blended technical horology with sculptural decorative arts, often incorporating hand-painted porcelain plaques, romantic figural imagery, and elaborate ormolu mounts.
The use of bleu céleste porcelain panels and portrait medallions reflects the influence of 18th-century Sèvres porcelain designs that remained highly desirable throughout the 19th century revival periods.

Antique condition with age-related wear throughout including rubbing and wear to gilt surfaces, scattered oxidation/patina variation, minor porcelain wear and surface abrasions, possible small losses or restorations, and wear consistent with age and use. Mechanical functionality has not been fully tested for long-term accuracy or reliability. The clock ticks intermittently and the chime works, would recommend a full clock servicing. Movement present with Japy Frères stamp.
