Mid-19th C French Boulle style glove or jewelry box
Hinged fall-front panel and fitted silk interior
Boulle - inlay technique developed by Andre-Charles Boulle in the 17th c and revived in the Napoleon III period (1850s-70s)
Dark base is ebonized/blackened wood
Inlay is a combo of brass, red-brown tortoisesheel veneer, dyed horn or stained mother of pearl (Blue and white highlights); this example looks like a premiere partie type - brass inlaid into tortoisheel veneer (more prized configuration)
Gadrooned border modling (beaded edge) and gilt brass escutcheon
