Additional Description:
A striking and highly decorative pair of French neoclassical urns, executed in richly veined white marble and mounted with ornate gilt bronze (ormolu) embellishments. Each urn features a classical baluster form with domed marble lids, topped by flame finials resting on acanthus collars.
The bodies are adorned with finely cast ormolu mounts, including draped floral garlands, ribbon-tied swags, and foliate medallions. Elegant scrolled handles terminate in stylized leaf forms, adding movement and sculptural presence. The urns are raised on slender marble stems with lotus-leaf ormolu collars, all supported by square marble plinth bases with decorative bronze mounts.
The contrast between the cool, natural marble veining and the warm, aged patina of the ormolu creates a refined and timeless aesthetic. These read as high-quality decorative garnitures or statement pieces for a mantel, console, or flanking arrangement.
Era:
Late 19th Century (circa 1880–1900), Belle Époque period
History:
This style draws heavily from the French neoclassical revival inspired by the Louis XVI period, which experienced renewed popularity in the late 19th century. Pieces like these were often produced in Parisian workshops for affluent interiors, echoing earlier 18th-century royal and aristocratic tastes.
Provenance:
France
Materials:
White veined marble, gilt bronze (ormolu)
Dimensions:
(To be provided)
Disclaimers/Condition:
Very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. The ormolu shows natural patina and rubbing consistent with age. Minor surface wear and inclusions to the marble as expected. No major structural issues observed.
