A charming vintage Dutch ceramic trinket or keepsake box, hand painted with a traditional Holland windmill landscape.
The small hexagonal-form box is finished in a soft cream glaze with green outlining and simple floral motifs to the sides. The fitted lid features a colorful pastoral scene depicting a windmill beside water, accompanied by small buildings, trees, and a bridge rendered in blue, green, red, brown, and yellow tones.
The decoration draws from the long tradition of Dutch Delftware while employing a colorful polychrome palette rather than the classic blue-and-white scheme most closely associated with Delft pottery.
The underside is hand marked:
“A Delft’s / Holland / Handpainted / 547”
beneath a small crown-like emblem.
A delightful little decorative object for rings, jewelry, small keepsakes, or display among a collection of Dutch ceramics.

The Netherlands has a centuries-long tradition of hand-painted earthenware, with the city of Delft becoming internationally celebrated beginning in the 17th century for tin-glazed pottery inspired in part by imported Asian porcelain.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, Dutch ceramic workshops continued to draw upon this decorative heritage while producing a broad variety of domestic and souvenir wares. Windmills, canals, sailing vessels, cottages, and pastoral landscapes became especially recognizable motifs associated with Holland.
Small hand-painted boxes such as this were popular decorative and souvenir objects during the 20th century. While the present piece bears the inscription “A Delft’s Holland Handpainted,” the marking does not, from the photographs alone, establish production by one of the historic Delft factories. It is therefore most appropriately described as a Dutch hand-painted Delft-style ceramic box.
