A charming French Limoges porcelain trinket box modeled in the form of an egg and decorated entirely by hand with romantic floral sprays.
The white porcelain body is painted with lush pink and yellow roses interspersed with tiny blue blossoms and green foliage, all arranged against a softly shaded ground. A broad gilt band encircles the center of the egg, adding a rich decorative contrast to the delicately painted flowers.
The two porcelain halves are joined by an ornate gilt-metal mount with scrolling decoration and a decorative bow-form clasp. Opening the box reveals an additional hand-painted rose bouquet centered within the lower interior, a particularly lovely detail that continues the decoration beyond the exterior.
The underside is inscribed “Décor main / Limoges / France,” indicating hand decoration in Limoges, France.
A beautifully decorative little object, ideal for displaying among French porcelain, vanity accessories, or a collection of traditional Limoges boxes.

Limoges has been one of France’s most celebrated centers of porcelain production since the late 18th century, owing in large part to the discovery of kaolin deposits in the surrounding region. Over time, the name “Limoges” became closely associated with finely made hard-paste porcelain and highly skilled hand decoration.
Small hinged porcelain boxes became especially popular as decorative and collectible objects during the 20th century. Often referred to broadly as Limoges boxes, they were produced in an enormous variety of forms—from animals and food to architectural subjects and traditional egg shapes—and frequently finished with hand-painted decoration and gilt-metal mounts. Contemporary and vintage examples continue to be collected for their miniature scale and highly detailed decoration.
The inscription on the underside of this example reads “Décor main Limoges France,” indicating that the decoration was executed by hand in Limoges. Because the mark does not identify a specific porcelain manufacturer or decorating atelier, I would avoid assigning it to a named Limoges house without further documentation.
