Treasures with a History

At For the Louvre of Antiques, we value history. We dig to find the hidden story behind each of our pieces to spark conversation, confirm provenance, and give our customers piece of mind.

Take this gorgeous 19th C Carved Wood Liquor Cave/Cellar, for example. It not only embodies the opulence of the Belle Époque era, but we can trace the piece back to a specific time, a specific shopping arcade, a specific artisian.

The decanter bottoms bear the signature of L. Boutigny, a renowned Parisian artisan active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Boutigny operated in the Passage des Princes, a prestigious shopping arcade on Boulevard des Italiens. Originally built in 1860, this iconic Parisian landmark was tragically destroyed in 1985 but meticulously rebuilt to its former grandeur in 1995.

Paired with Baccarat-style cordials and decanters, this cave à liqueur is a remarkable example of fine craftsmanship and a tangible connection to the refined tastes of a bygone era.
