An elegant late 19th to early 20th-century American trumpet-form vase by Forbes Silver Co., combining a silver-plated architectural base with a gracefully flared etched glass insert.
The clear glass upper portion rises in a slender trumpet form before opening into a broad undulating rim with softly scalloped points. The surface is finely wheel-etched with delicate fern-like fronds, floral sprays, and radiating blossoms, creating a wonderfully light and airy contrast against the substantial metal base.
The glass insert is supported by a cylindrical silver-plated standard decorated with repeating pierced or embossed vertical and geometric bands. Below, a broad circular foot with concentric molded borders provides visual weight and stability.
The combination of delicately etched glass and richly modeled silverplate is characteristic of decorative American tablewares produced around the turn of the 20th century, when silver manufacturers frequently paired their metalwork with cut, pressed, or etched glass components.
A particularly lovely piece for displaying flowers while retaining enough sculptural presence to stand beautifully on its own.

The Forbes Silver Company was established in Meriden, Connecticut in 1894 as a secondary trademark or department of the prominent Meriden Britannia Company. Forbes specialized in silver-plated hollowware and produced a broad range of domestic and decorative objects.
Meriden was one of the most important centers of American silver manufacturing during the late 19th century. Meriden Britannia became renowned internationally for its silver-plated wares and later joined the consolidation that formed the International Silver Company in 1898. Forbes-branded wares continued to be produced under this broader manufacturing network.
The present vase belongs to a fashionable category of turn-of-the-century decorative objects combining silverplate with removable glass inserts. Period examples by Forbes are known with etched glass vase bodies seated within silver-plated mounts, reinforcing this attribution and general dating.

Antique condition consistent with age and use. The silver-plated base exhibits substantial naturally developed tarnish, oxidation, darkening, finish variation, scattered scratches, and rubbing to the plating.
The etched glass insert shows expected age-related surface wear and may exhibit minor scratches, small bubbles, manufacturing irregularities. There is one medium-sized repaired chip to the rim, as depicted in the photographs.
The broad flared rim should be handled with care due to its delicate form.
Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
