Additional Description:
A vivid carved and painted wooden fragment, likely from a traditional Sicilian cart or decorative wagon panel. The piece features openwork figural carving with horses, riders, scrollwork, and a central figure, retaining traces of original polychrome decoration in red, green, black, gold, and ochre tones. The lower register has carved lettering, appearing to read in part “FRATELLI D’AGATA FU LORENZO” and likely referencing a family/workshop name. The reverse shows worn painted decoration and pierced cutouts, confirming it was once part of a larger decorative structure.

Sicilian carts, or carretti siciliani, were famously decorated with carved and painted panels depicting chivalric legends, saints, horses, battles, and regional storytelling scenes.
