Pair of Antique French Floral Still Life Oil Paintings, Signed H. Brunet and Dated 1869

A lovely pair of antique French floral still lifes, each depicting a richly arranged bouquet of garden flowers painted in oil and presented in matching circular brass frames.
The compositions feature roses and other blossoms in shades of blush pink, cream, yellow, coral, deep red, and burgundy, set against softly atmospheric blue-gray backgrounds. The flowers are rendered with textured, expressive brushwork that gives the petals a particularly dimensional appearance.
Both works appear to be signed “H. Brunet” along the lower edge, with the initial H tightly joined to the beginning of the surname. One painting also appears to be dated 1869, placing the pair firmly in the mid-19th century.
The matching round brass frames are finished with concentric beaded and twisted-rope style borders and simple suspension rings at the top. Their circular format, botanical subject, and restrained gilt-brass presentation give them a wonderful French salon or boudoir quality.
